The Prairie Chapter would like to announce that we have selected the (inaugural) 2011 winner of the Prairie Chapter Award for Outstanding Research.  The awardee is Mark Hersam, Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and Professor of Chemistry at Northwestern University.  His award citation is for “tremendous contributions towards the fundamental understanding and direct application of numerous nanoscale materials, unique and selective surface chemistries, and his pioneering research towards sorting and purifying low-dimensional carbon-based materials.”  Prof. Hersam will receive an invitation to speak at the 2011 Prairie Chapter meeting as well as an engraved plaque and a check for $1,000.
