In 1997, the Chapter's annual spring symposium was sponsored jointly with the East Tennessee Section of the Materials Research Society. The symposium was held on Thursday, May 22, 1997 at the Holiday Inn on Cedar Bluff in Knoxville, TN. The topic for the meeting was
